The platform for DUC's 14th oil and gas field, the Halfdan Field, is now in place
The 3,500-ton, four-legged platform has been lifted into place at the Halfdan Field in the Danish part of the North Sea about 200 km west of Esbjerg.
Halfdan has been a unique field in many aspects, and Mærsk Olie og Gas (operator for DUC) can now add yet another chapter. Since the field was discovered in the spring of 1999, it has taken less than 18 months to plan, construct and install the production facilities. All that re-mains is the hook-up work - i.e. checking and joining pipes and cables - after which produc-tion from the permanent installation is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
Five of the nine planned Phase 1 wells have already been drilled. Three wells were put into production in March via temporary production facilities on the MÆRSK ENDEAVOUR drilling rig. Production has now been stopped, and the drilling rig has been moved to another location to make space for installation of the Halfdan platform.
MÆRSK ENDEAVOUR is currently working on a delineation well at the Halfdan Field, after which it is expected to return to the Halfdan platform to continue drilling the remaining wells at the field. The rig will also be used for a period of time to accommodate the crew working at the Halfdan Field during this phase of the project.
Information on DUC: Dansk Undergrunds Consortium, DUC, is a consortium consisting of A.P. Møller, Shell and Texaco. The A.P. Møller company, Mærsk Olie og Gas AS, is the operator for all of DUC's activities.
