Container vessel for Maersk Sealand named at Odense Steel Shipyard (LICA MÆRSK)
The fifth newbuilding in a series of six container vessels built at Odense Steel Shipyard for A.P. Møller was named on Saturday, 3 November 2001. The yard’s newbuilding no. 175 was named by Mrs Lotte Leschly, wife of Mr Jan Leschly, Chairman and CEO of Care Capital, New Jersey, USA and member of the board of Dampskibsselskabet af 1912 A/S.
The newbuilding was named LICA MÆRSK after Shipowner A.P. Møller’s sister, Petrea Angelica Møller.
LICA MÆRSK has a container capacity of 3,700 TEU (twentyfoot container units). The postpanamax size vessel (too wide for passing the Panama Canal) has a length of 266 metres, a beam of 37 metres and a draught of 14 metres.
LICA MÆRSK is equipped with a 10-cylinder MAN B&W diesel main engine, which develops 62,200 BHP. At 94 revolutions per minute the fully loaded vessel reaches a speed of approx. 25 knots. The ship has a considerable capacity for reefer containers.
After sea trials LICA MÆRSK will be delivered to A.P. Møller in mid November and then enter Maersk Sealand’s worldwide liner service.
LICA MÆRSK is registered in Hanstholm with Svend Leo Madsen as Captain and Poul Sommer as Chief Engineer. The vessel will have a crew of 15.
