New container vessel for Maersk Sealand (LEXA MÆRSK) 
Saturday 22 September 2001 the fourth newbuilding in a series of six container vessels was named. Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd. newbuilding no. 174 for A.P. Møller was named by Ms Kirsten Rausing, member of the Board in Tetra Laval Group and granddaughter of the founder of Tetra Pak, Dr. Ruben Rausing. Ms Kirsten Rausing owns and manages three reputable studs (horse-breeding farms) in England and Ireland.


Tetra Laval Group, which operates in 165 countries throughout the world, consists of Tetra Pak (packages) and DeLaval (dairy produce). Tetra Laval Group is an important business partner for Maersk Sealand as well as Maersk Air Cargo.


The newbuilding was named LEXA MÆRSK. The vessel has a length of 266 metres, a width of 37 metres, a draught of 14 metres and a container capacity of 3,700 TEU (twentyfoot container units).


LEXA MÆRSK is equipped with a 10-cylinder MAN B&W diesel engine, which develops 62,200 BHP. Fully loaded the vessel reaches a speed of about 25 knots.


The newbuilding will leave for sea trials late September, and after delivery to A. P. Møller early October LEXA MÆRSK will enter the Maersk Sealand worldwide service.


LEXA MÆRSK is registered in Svendborg with Henrik Isaksen as Captain and Mogens N. Jørgensen as Chief Engineer. The vessel will have a crew of 13.
