New container vessel for Maersk Sealand (LUNA MÆRSK) 
On Saturday 8 December 2001 was the last newbuilding in a series of container vessels built at Odense Steel Shipyard was named. Countess Victoria Bernstorff-Gyldensteen, the wife of Count Frants Erich Bernstorff-Gyldensteen, member of the board of A/S Dampskibsselskabet Svendborg, honoured the owner by naming the Yard’s newbuilding 176.


The newbuilding was named LUNA MÆRSK. The new vessel has a container capacity of 3,700 TEU (twentyfoot equivalent units), a length of 266 metres, a width of 37 metres (too wide for passage of the Panama Canal), 21,5 metres from keel to deck and a draught of 14 metres.


LUNA MÆRSK is equipped with a 10-cylinder MAN B&W diesel main engine, which develops 62,200 BHP at 94 revolutions per minute and fully loaded the vessel reaches a speed of approx. 25 knots. The vessel has a capacity for reefer containers.


LUNA MÆRSK will be delivered after completed sea trials in early January and will then enter Maersk Sealand’s worldwide liner service.


LUNA MÆRSK is registered in Helsingør with Frank Krog Larsson as Captain and Birger Oskar Larsen as Chief Engineer. The vessel will have a crew of 15
