ALBERT MÆRSK oil spill Algeciras
On Saturday 21 December 2002 the news agency AFP published information about an oil spill of 1,000 tons heavy fuel oil from ALBERT MÆRSK.
This is not correct.
In the morning of the 20 December 2002 ALBERT MÆRSK, when bunkering and transferring bilge oil from one tank to another, spilled about 2 cubic metres on deck and 5-10 litres down the side of the vessel and into the water. In this connection the maximum guarantee of EUR 600,000 was deposited to the Spanish authorities to cover any cleaning neccessary and a possible fine.
The vessel departed as scheduled on 22 December in the morning.
